I’ve joined the Luxe magazine team and my new book column is out now!
Regional, relevant and entertaining, Luxe is one of the North East’s best-loved magazines, shining a light on stylish, celebratory and significant happenings in the region.
A fine combination of high fashion, on-trend interiors and the best in food, travel, beauty, motoring and more, Luxe is a must-read for the people of the North East.
There are six editions of the magazine each year – providing a bi-monthly fix of luxurious content.
My new column – which launches in the February/March edition – is a collection of bookish delights.
It features three book reviews, including fiction, non-fiction and lifestyle reads. From cookbooks to self-help guides, thrillers to literary fiction, I’ll be providing regular recommendations for the best things to read.
The column also provides a guide to literary events in the North East. Our region is a hot-bed of bookish talent and there is a buzzing literary scene packed with festivals, meet the author events, writing workshops and book launches. Keep your diary at hand!
Alongside the book column, I’ll be writing features on the North East literary scene and developments in the book world. Check out my first assignment here – a review of Dr Johanna Ward’s new book Superfoods to Superhealth.
A dream job for a bookworm
If you’ve known me for more than five minutes or taken a glance at my social media feeds, you’ll know that I’m obsessed with books.
Way back when I was just a toddler, I had a bookcase filled with Ladybird Classics (The Magic Porridge Pot being a particular favourite) and read constantly. That love of reading stayed with me throughout my life.
I studied English at university (twice!) and set up the Book and Brew book club five years ago. I’ve read more than 60 books with the group, shadow judged four literary prizes with the Reading Agency and even appeared on BBC Radio 2’s Book Club (where Jo Whiley got both my name and location wrong!).
I’m hoping that my passion for reading shines through my Luxe column and that it inspires people to read more, read outside of their comfort zone and to get out to meet authors, fellow bookworms or even take up writing for themselves.
I’d love to know what you think of the column and the books and events featured in it. Tag me @Dawn_McG and use the #LuxeReads hashtag to join the book chat on Twitter. Follow me on Twitter and Instagram for sneak previews of the books I’m reviewing in future columns.
