Hey. I’m Dawn and I’m a strategic communications specialist based in North East England.
I have over a decade of experience delivering marketing, communications and content for organisations in the public and private sectors.
That’s involved generating quality leads that can be quickly turned into sales, and nurturing communities in support of some complex regeneration projects.
I have experience in housing, regeneration and local government, and excel at producing top-notch content, building brands and growing corporate reputations. My corporate experience includes:
- Barratt Homes
- North Tyneside Council
- North of Tyne Devolution
- Gateshead Council
- Cobweb Information
In 2013, I won Barratt plc’s national award for individual excellence for my outstanding work in transforming the North East division’s marketing team into a strategic function that delivered real results to support brand awareness and business objectives. My placemaking campaign for North Tyneside Council, We are North Tyneside, was shortlisted for the best low-cost campaign in the UnAwards 2017, and my hugely successful marketing launch of David Wilson Homes’ multi-million La Sagesse development won best CRM campaign in Barratt’s inaugural marketing awards in 2015.
I’m a member of both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). I was a judge in the 2018 CIPR PRide awards and am a CIM mentor and Chartered Marketer. My qualifications include a CIPR Professional Diploma, CIM Communications and Marketing Diploma, a Freelance and Feature Writing Diploma from the London School of Journalism, a HubSpot Academy Content Marketing Certificate and I studied crisis communications with the Cabinet Office. I also have an MA and BA (Hons) in English from Northumbria University.
But, I don’t just do strategic communications.
My passion is reading and I have been an avid bookworm all of my life. I run the Book and Brew book club and have featured on the BBC Radio 2 Book Club, shadow judged four major literary prizes with The Reading Agency and worked with Hachette, one of the UK’s largest publishers, to select book jacket designs for new releases. In 2017, my Book and Brew blog (which is no longer published) was shortlisted in the arts and culture category of the Northern Blog Awards.
I’m also the book columnist for Luxe magazine. My column launched in March 2020 and features three book reviews and highlights from the North East literary scene.
Whether you’re looking for some strategic communications advice, need a batch of creative content, or just want some book recommendations, I’m your gal.
